Dear brothers and sisters, thank you so much indeed for inviting me today. The people of Myanmar have been living under the reign of terror of the genocidal military junta. It has been two years of living Hell, two years of hopelessness and helplessness, two years of losing friends and family, two years of pain and suffering, two years of fear and terror, two years of loss and wandering, two years of death and destruction, two years of attacks on churches and schools, two years of attacks on freedom and democracy, two years of rape and torture, two years of starvation and hunger, two years of atrocities and crimes against humanity, two years of lawlessness, two years of injustice and unrighteousness, two years of darkness and desperation. At the same time, it has been two years of courage and bravery, two years of Unity in diversity, two years of perseverance and resilience, two years of struggle for freedom and Democracy, two years of struggle for Human Rights and righteousness, two years of strength and wisdom, two years of grace and mercy, two years of faith and trust in God Almighty.

In the last 24 months alone we have seen the Burma Army (Tatmadaw) Junta forces detain more than 20,000 civilians including elected members of parliament, President U Win Myint and State Counsellor Daw Aung San Suu Kyi and more than 9,000 attacks on civilians which have killed more than 3,000 civilians including children and women. More than 50,000 homes, schools, churches, monasteries have been destroyed. More than 1.6 million were forced to become homeless in Refugee and IDP camps. As a result more than 17 million people of Burma are in great in need of Humanitarian Assistance and half the population of the country’s 54 million people are heading towards extreme poverty.
